Traditional Dorset Cottages, Wareham

Pubs, Bars and Clubs in Wareham.

The town is extremely well endowed with pubs, bars and clubs and this page will introduce these establishments and provide some basic information to guide the thirsty visitor, including links to 'Beer in the Evening (BITE)', where further details may be obtained including reviews.

Basically, there are eight pubs (including two hotels), two clubs and a bar. If anyone knows of others, please drop us a line. After a beer or two, there is often room for a late night snack to fend off the beer monkey and a list of suitable late-night muncheries is also provided below.

NEW!!: Well Wired Web of Wareham has developed a new website for the Kings Arms in North St. In addition to a Google Maps walkthrough of the pub, features a live list of the current real ales that are on offer. The list is regularly updated by the staff as the ales change.

NQPs (Not Quite Pubs)

The Conservative Club in South St. offers members and affilliates probably the lowest priced drinks in town. Harry's Bar also in South St. is almost a pub in the sense that it now does serve a real ale and it's worth a mention being quite a lively Wine/Coffee Bar with good food and a friendly atmosphere. Offering WiFi and a range of comfy seating and a small outside garden, it provides an alternative quenching venue.. The Royal British Legion in St.John's Hill is a members-only club offering competetively priced drinks and food to members.

Late Night Nibbles After an evening of quaffing the finest ales in Dorset, you may feel that a small savoury snack would round off your evening.

Luckily, Wareham offers three Chinese takeaways (KW in South St, Lotus in East St, Pandada in West St), two Indian Takeaways (Monsoon, nearthe railway station and Raj Poot in North St), the ever excellent Chipperies in South St -though it does close at an unreasonably early 10:30- and also Coppers kebab and pizza emporium in South St to cater for your nourishing nocturnal nibbling needs.

Nearby Pubby Attractions The Square and Compass at Worth Matravers near Swanage is an absolute joy of a place. Unspoilt pub with no bar as such, (just two serving hatches), serves up a small range of excellent ales and a wide range of local ciders. Food is limited to pasties or pies just like it should be in a proper pub ! Lovely garden with megalithic tables and sea views. Review.

The Scott Arms at Kingston has probably the best pub garden view in Purbeck, looking out over Corfe Castle to Poole Harbour and beyond. The Sailor's Return at Chaldon Herring is a lovely unspoiled village pub with friendly staff and good food.
